Back 4 Good recently reported that a number of US companies had asked about the possibility of looking at relocating a significant number of their non-american employees within their European HQs here in Ireland as a direct result of President Trumps Executive Order on Immigration.
Since we reported on this we have seen the biggest names in Silicon Valley lining up to support the high-profile legal battle against President Trump’s order .
It is a widely held belief among US corporates that immigrants have and continue to be a driving force in the US economy .In legal documents supplied to the court hearing the companies state ” Immigrants or their children founded more than 200 of the companies on the Fortune 500 list -collectively ,these companies generate annual revenue of $4.2 trillion and employ millions of Americans”
While Trump’s order has slowed down as a result of the Court Judgement against President Trump ,he has promised to issue a new order ” in a matter of days ” that will restore the new rules as they apply to 7 Countries .
This presents an excellent opportunity for Ireland to encourage FDI companies here already to consider locating their best and brightest in Ireland which in turn will lead to many new opportunities for Irish skilled workers here and Irish professionals overseas who want to return.
Indeed it is reported that 3 Software Giants are in early stage talks with the IDA about the possibility of locating in Ireland .Intuit,Infor and CA Technologies are considering Ireland as a option and a key factor driving their decision is Trump’s Executive Order and the impact that this will have on the provision of Highly Skilled new employees .
These companies are big players with Intuit showing revenues last year of $6 Billion ,they currently employ over 8000 people worldwide .
Infor based in New York posted over $3 billion in revenue last year and has a small operation in Sandyford with 15 employees .
CA Technologies whose revenues exceeded $4.25 billion has set-aside $500m for strategic investment in 2017 and their arrival in Ireland could provide hundreds of jobs in the Tech sector .
