As another major battle taking place in Philadelphia is the Talent battle with a recent report released by the British Chambers of Commerce stating that more than 75% of businesses facing a digital skills shortage in the City .<\/p>\n
In January ,the BCC conducted an online survey of 1,465 people working in the sector and 845 of firms think digital and IT skills are vital for their business expansion with a total of 76% of businesses saying that they have a shortage of digital skills in their workforce ,ranging from 52% at a slight shortage to 3% at a critical shortage .<\/p>\n
Total employment in the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington area is now at close to 3 million people up nearly 3% over the year and the district has not had a decline in employment figures for over 7 years <\/p>\n
Shortage exist in nearly all sector along with ICT and Digital with professional and business services having the largest increase in employment at 3.6% above the national average, the education and health sector and the leisure and hospitality supersectors had the second and third-largest employment gains at 2.5% in the Philadelphia area .<\/p>\n
In the Healthcare sector the city is suffering acute skills shortages with roles across all occupations .<\/p>\n
In the Tech sector the City now ranks second only behind San Francisco in the number of Tech Jobs as a percentage of the total number of jobs created in the region in the past 13 years with One in Four jobs created in Philadelphia a tech job -thats ahead of Washington with 21% and Boston with 13% and New York at 12% .<\/p>\n
