The Retail and Wholesale sector is starting to slowly come out of a tough period of stagnation with concerns around skills shortages in a number of key roles.<\/p>\n

Technological change in the sector has resulted in changing how the sector does it business and these changes are driving jobs growth in new non-shop floor roles.<\/p>\n

As demand for staff grows so to are salaries with the sector moving away from its traditional reputation of a low paid zero hours contract environment.<\/p>\n

The sector now has to meet consumer demand which is both traditional and online.<\/p>\n

Because retail sector employers are often prepared to recruit people for employment without previous experience in the sector Training and Development are vital.<\/p>\n

This requires the sector to invest more budget into training and development and ensuring that current staff are retained and allowed progression.<\/p>\n

Employment in professional occupations in the sector has been increasing and is expected to continue to grow<\/p>\n

The Retail and Wholesale sector needs to deal with a negative perception of the sector which is seen as a major barrier to recruiting the best people as the existence of low skilled and low paid jobs obscures the highly skilled.well paid jobs that are currently available.<\/p>\n
