Head of Information Technology
Contract: 6 months initially (strong likelihood of extension to 12–24 months)
Location: Hybrid – 3 days onsite

Team: 3–4 internal IT staff + 2 contractors
Organisation: ~160 staff
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Head of IT / ICT Manager to lead IT operations, digital transformation, and IT security within a public sector organisation.
This is a strategic leadership role, responsible for managing business-as-usual IT, leading the transition to an outsourced MSP model, and delivering major digital transformation initiatives over the next 36 months.
This role suits a senior IT leader keen to work in the public sector and drive meaningful organisational change.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and deliver the ICT and digital transformation strategy.
• Manage day-to-day IT operations and ensure a high-quality end-user experience.
• Lead the transition to an outsourced MSP model (3–4 months).
• Deliver major system implementations including grant management and workflow platforms.
• Own IT security, governance, and compliance.
• Manage vendors, contracts, and IT budgets.
• Lead and develop the internal IT team and contractors.
• Act as the key stakeholder liaison across senior leadership and external partners.
Essential Requirements
• Level 8 qualification in IT / Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent.
• 6+ years’ IT experience, including 4+ years in IT leadership/management.
• Strong background in digital transformation, project/programme delivery, and system implementations.
• Proven experience in IT security, governance, and vendor management.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Desirable
• Public sector experience
• Knowledge of data protection and procurement
