Head of Manufacturing

Our manufacturing/distribution client in South Wicklow is seeking a Head of Manufacturing to join their team on a full-time permanent basis. Here you will be responsible for the management of all resources (staff & production) within the Thermoforming, Warehouse & Engineering Departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will oversee and ensure efficiency across multiple areas of the business such as Production, Quality & Hygiene, Engineering, and Staff Management.

Production:

  • Ensure optimum use of available resources to achieve the output for each shift, in line with the company production plan.
  • Identify adverse variances from the production plan and take action to correct any shortfalls within production.
  • Manage departmental budget spend by tracking staff overtime spend, machinery costs, freight costs etc.

Quality & Hygiene:
Conduct regular checks to maintain the required quality levels investigating deficiencies and taking corrective action.
Ensure all Company hygiene regulations and procedures are followed and adhered to.
Abide by the company’s environmental and quality management procedures.
Engineering:

  • Ensure that equipment is effectively use and cared for by all production personnel.
  • Organise preventative and breakdown maintenance as required and take charge of the maintenance team in the absence of the Engineering Manager.

Staff Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of staff in conjunction with the Shift Managers, Warehouse Manager, Engineering Manager and Planning team.
  • Deal with all administrative aspects of each department which includes staff rostering, conflict/complaints management and performance appraisals etc.

Key Requirements:

  • Health and Safety certification (eg IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent)
  • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma certification or equivalent
  • Experience managing production teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of improving production efficiency and reducing waste
  • Proven experience in thermoforming or plastics manufacturing
  • Experience with ERP / MRP systems
  • Budget management and cost control
  • Knowledge of quality standards (e.g ISO 9001, BRC etc or equivalent)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities
